Christina Boyd finds disturbing evidence in Lucy’s family videos, while Sally Metcalfe faces a frightening Halloween night and Adam Barlow proposes to Alya Nazir.
A situation at the Metcalfe household leads to a discovery about the murdered Rachel Parkinson in Coronation Street this week. Rachel was apparently killed by her husband Richie (Nathan Sussex) earlier this year. Their daughter Lucy (Anya Dewin) moved in with Sally and Tim Metcalfe (Sally Dynevor and Joe Duttine), and has struggled to settle. It is clear that Lucy and Richie are not being entirely honest about Rachel’s final moments. Viewers also now know that Christina Boyd (Amy Robbins) is Rachel’s biological mother.
Christina’s discovery
Christina has stayed at a distance from Lucy. Sally previously told her the young woman is too vulnerable to cope with learning who she really is. The temptation to cross that boundary grows this week, according to the spoilers, as she finds out worrying information. Christina voices her concern about Lucy to George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley). Determined to look after her granddaughter, she finds Lucy later in the week looking at old family videos.
In the episode airing on Friday 30 October, Lucy shows Christina the videos on her phone. Christina notices Richie behaving abusively towards Rachel in the background. That challenges the earlier account that Rachel was the abusive partner. The footage suggests a history of domestic abuse and is not described as showing the killing itself.
Christina is so shaken that she runs off, dropping a keyring that holds a photograph of Rachel. Lucy finds it and confronts her at the undertakers, demanding to know why she has a picture of her dead mother. The published spoilers do not say whether Christina reveals that Rachel was her estranged daughter or keeps the connection secret. Later that day, Christina tells George she is convinced Richie was abusing Rachel, and he is shocked. There is no confirmed spoiler showing that the footage proves how Rachel died.
Lucy’s complaint
On Thursday 29 October, social worker Ruth visits Sally and Tim after Lucy makes a complaint. Ruth reveals that Lucy has been keeping a journal accusing Sally of being controlling and of saying unpleasant things about her behind her back. Sally and Tim are horrified, while Lucy appears pleased that her complaint is being taken seriously. The spoilers do not say whether Ruth believes the allegations or removes Lucy from their care.
Before finding the video, Christina speaks to Lucy privately on Maxine Peacock’s memorial bench. Lucy talks about her difficulties with Sally and says social services are becoming involved. Christina later tells George she wants to protect Lucy, and admits she feels she failed Rachel, which makes the discovery about Richie especially painful.
Sally’s Halloween ordeal
Home alone, Sally becomes increasingly paranoid that Mick Michaelis has escaped from prison after a riot. Lisa Connor-Swain (Vicky Myers) visits to reassure her, but it does not stop Sally’s mind racing. A mysterious ghost spooks her outside and someone makes prank calls, and a power cut plunges Weatherfield into darkness. When the lights return, Sally is terrified to see a ghostly figure in front of her. She hits the person over the head in self-defence, then finds that it is Lucy.
Happier news and other storylines
Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) proposes to Alya Nazir (Sair Khan), and she says yes. Elsewhere, Marco loses his court case and stays in prison, and Summer visits and promises to support his appeal. Idris considers buying Underworld as Carla struggles with poor sales, and she rejects his suggestion to rebrand the factory. Daniel and Amy’s campaign against a proposed sale of land near Weatherfield High struggles to win support, and Ken suggests Daniel write an article for the Weatherfield Gazette.
When to watch
There is no episode on Wednesday 28 October because of ITV’s coverage of the Carabao Cup. The next visit to Weatherfield is on 29 October. Episodes air on ITV1, with new instalments on ITVX from 7am.
