Viewers are asking whether the mystery intruder is behind the abduction. Spoilers suggest the baby is found safe this week, but Kim makes a devastating mistake with Detective Thea Ramsden.
Emmerdale viewers are asking who the hooded figure watching Kim Tate at Home Farm is, and whether they have kidnapped Joe Tate’s baby son. The question followed Sunday’s episode of the ITV soap, in which Graham Foster rushed from the cottage where he had been caring for the child to tell Kim the baby had vanished. According to advance previews, the kidnapping is resolved this week. Kim, meanwhile, wrongly accuses Thea of being responsible.
What happened on Sunday
A card with a warning soon made clear that someone had taken the baby, and that the police must not be told. Kim and Graham were told to wait for further instructions. Kim nonetheless confided in Detective Thea Ramsden, begging her not to tell anyone. Just before that, she had sent Joe to Monaco. He believes his son has been adopted.
With Graham back at the cottage and Kim about to go to bed, she heard a noise in the house, having just found a child’s toy on the floor. She ignored it and left the room, and viewers then saw a hooded person through an open door.
It has not been established that the hooded figure is the kidnapper. The timing suggests a link, but the episode did not confirm one. A trailer released before the episode showed Kim frightened that someone was inside Home Farm, and Thea appearing behind her in one sequence. That does not show she is the hooded figure, and the advance spoilers establish her innocence in the abduction.
The kidnapper’s demands
According to ITV previews cited in the research notes, the kidnapper sends instructions through a tablet. Photographs of the Tate family appear inside the cottage, apparently as part of an intimidation campaign, though their origin is not given. Graham is told to travel to a specified location and follows the instructions to Home Farm Stables, where he finds the baby alive and well. The person responsible reveals themselves to him, and he is shocked. The previews checked do not name the culprit.
Kim and Thea
Kim becomes convinced that Thea is responsible, influenced by Thea’s hostile treatment of her after the fatal crash involving Dawn Fletcher and Jimmy King. When Thea becomes angry and tries to stop Kim leaving, Kim grabs a kitchen knife and stabs her. She realises she has accused the wrong person when Thea suggests that Kim was planning to sell the baby. Thea then loses consciousness.
Kim takes Thea to hospital, where staff insist that the police must be told. That leaves Kim in a difficult position, as she has been hiding the baby’s whereabouts from Joe and the authorities. No preview confirms whether she is arrested or charged.
The stabbing carries a further twist. Thea is Kim’s biological daughter, whom Kim gave up for adoption in 1999, and she has been investigating Kim while hiding her identity. The previews do not say when, or whether, Kim learns that she has seriously injured her own daughter.
