Fairlane Town Center evacuated as police and state troopers respond to gunfire; witnesses describe scenes of panic.Multiple people have been shot at Fairlane Town Center in Dearborn, Michigan, according to sources who spoke to Britannia Daily, as police continue to investigate an active and ongoing incident at the shopping centre.
Officers from Dearborn Police were seen at the mall, located near Evergreen Road and Michigan Avenue, from around 2pm on Friday, 3 July. Michigan State Police are also at the scene. The mall has since been evacuated.
Television cameras captured at least one person being loaded into an ambulance, though the nature of that person’s injuries has not been confirmed.
Weston Fantroy, a witness who spoke to local outlet Local 4, said he had been inside the mall buying a birthday gift for his daughter when he heard what sounded like four or five gunshots and saw a commotion break out. He said he ran outside, fearing for his safety.
Dearborn Police have yet to confirm publicly what took place inside the mall. In a statement posted to Facebook, the department said officers were “currently on the scene investigating a shooting at Fairlane Town Center,” describing it as “an active and ongoing investigation.” The force asked residents and visitors to stay away from the area while officers worked to secure the scene and investigators carried out their inquiries, adding that further information would be released in due course.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
