A 77-year-old man has been left seriously injured after a thug wielding a machete attacked him in broad daylight on a Glasgow street, with shocking footage capturing the moment the knifeman hacked at the elderly victim after stabbing him inside a parked car.
The attack took place on Auckland Wynd in Dalmarnock at around 12.10pm on Tuesday 28 April, when the pensioner was reportedly stabbed inside a black Mercedes before the attacker turned on him in the street. Video footage of the incident shows the assailant, dressed entirely in black, attempting to open the boot of the car to retrieve a number of bin bags stored inside. As the elderly man tries to intervene, the attacker pushes him back while brandishing the machete, slashing at him repeatedly as the pensioner attempts to avoid the blows. The knifeman then grabs one of the bags from the boot and throws it to the ground before fleeing.
Armed police officers, a dog unit and multiple ambulance crews descended on the scene following emergency calls. A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed that an ambulance, two special operations response teams, a paramedic response car and a critical care team were all dispatched. The pensioner was transported to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with injuries described by police as serious but not life-threatening.
Police Scotland has seized the Mercedes and launched a search for the attacker, who remained at large at the time of publication. A force spokesperson said officers remained in the area and that enquiries were ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the assault.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Police Scotland.
