Former NFL star Marcellus Wiley has been released on a $1,000 bond and ordered to have no contact with his wife Annemarie following his arrest in Orlando, as he continues to deny her allegations of rape, physical abuse and years of intimidation throughout their marriage.
Marcellus Wiley, the former Pro Bowler turned television analyst, has been released on a $1,000 cash bond after being booked into Orange County Jail on Saturday, 4 July, following an alleged altercation with his wife Annemarie over the holiday weekend in Orlando. As a condition of his release, a court has ordered Wiley to have no direct or indirect contact with Annemarie, with a single exception allowing him to return to the family home once, accompanied by law enforcement, to collect personal belongings. He is due to appear for an arraignment hearing on 4 August, and has been assigned a public defender for the case.
What the Arrest Affidavit Alleges
According to the arrest affidavit, Wiley threatened to kill his wife and became physical with her in front of their seven-year-old daughter in a hotel room at the World Marriott. However, the responding deputy reported no visible injuries on Annemarie at the scene, and she declined medical treatment at the time. The couple’s daughter gave a statement to deputies saying she had heard her parents arguing but did not witness her father physically touch her mother. Wiley has publicly denied that any physical altercation took place during the Orlando incident, and says he believes the allegations are connected to the couple’s ongoing divorce.
A Separate, Wider Divorce Filing
The Florida arrest is legally distinct from a separate divorce filing Annemarie lodged in California on Monday, in which she also sought a restraining order against Wiley. Citing irreconcilable differences, she accused her husband of “a continuing and escalating pattern of physical violence, sexual abuse, verbal and emotional abuse, financial control, and intimidation,” alleging the abuse began in 2012 and included multiple incidents of physical violence along with four alleged rapes. Annemarie is also seeking sole legal and physical custody of the couple’s three children, along with an order denying Wiley visitation rights. The domestic battery case in Florida and the divorce and restraining order proceedings in California will be handled through separate courts, running independently of one another.
In her filing, Annemarie described a pattern of ongoing abuse. “Marcellus subjects me to constant criticism, cruel and sarcastic remarks, and intimidation,” she wrote. “His verbal and emotional abuse is constant, and his physical abuse occurs approximately once a month, and at times more frequently. I am afraid of Marcellus, and I fear for my own safety and for the safety of our children.”
Wiley’s Response
Wiley responded with a lengthy statement sent to The California Post, in which he denied the allegations and claimed to possess “videos, photographs, text messages, emails, and other evidence” that directly contradict what he called his wife’s “baseless claims.” He said: “I love my children with everything I am. My highest priority has always been protecting them and preserving the relationship they have with both of their parents. Because of the public allegations made against me by Annemarie, I have been forced to respond with evidence rather than emotion. More importantly, I owe it to my children to truthfully document what they and I have endured.”
Wiley went further, alleging he has evidence of infidelity on Annemarie’s part, including what he described as an affair with her pregnant friend’s husband. Annemarie previously appeared as a full-time cast member on season 13 of Bravo’s “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.” Referencing her departure from the show, Wiley wrote: “To be frank, many friends, family members, and fans have opined that after she was kicked off ‘The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’, she lost her mind! Unfortunately, I must agree.”
He maintained that he had never wanted the couple’s private struggles to become public, saying: “I never wanted my family’s issues and struggles to become public for any reason, including divorce leverage. But I unfortunately knew this day was inevitable. I was willing to endure anything – even hell itself – if it meant being with my children every single day. I am their hero, and now I am fighting to make sure the positive and real image they know of me is the one that endures. I am prepared to address these allegations and related matters through the legal process and with evidence. My focus remains on my children, my integrity, and the truth. Thanks for your understanding.”
