Three people, including two boys aged 14 and 16, have been charged with murder following the fatal stabbing of a man in Newcastle upon Tyne earlier this week.
Gino Robb, 25, was rushed to hospital with stab wounds after the attack on Shields Road, Byker, on Tuesday night, but was pronounced dead later that evening. A murder investigation was launched immediately, with police carrying out a series of arrests over the following days, according to ChronicleLive.
Two men aged 22 and 24, along with a 16-year-old boy, were initially arrested on suspicion of murder but were subsequently released on bail pending further enquiries. Two further men aged 40 and 33, along with another 16-year-old boy, were then arrested in the nearby Walker area on suspicion of conspiracy to murder. The 40-year-old was later released on police bail. A 14-year-old boy was also arrested on suspicion of murder.
Jed Grieve, 33, of Orpington Avenue, Walker, along with two boys aged 14 and 16 who cannot be named for legal reasons, have now been formally charged with murder. All three have been remanded in custody and are due to appear before Newcastle Magistrates’ Court on Monday 22 June.
Detective Chief Inspector Atherton, of Northumbria Police’s Major Investigation Team, said: “Our thoughts are firmly with Gino’s family and loved ones after the tragic events of Tuesday evening. We continue to provide them with all possible support and request that their privacy is respected at this difficult time.” He confirmed the investigation “remains very much ongoing,” with further enquiries continuing in the Byker and Walker areas.
Police are continuing to appeal for information from the public. Det Ch Insp Atherton said: “As part of our investigation, we are continuing to ask for information from anyone who saw two people on an electric motorbike which we believe entered Shields Road from the area of Grace Street in the minutes leading up to the incident, before then heading back along Shields Road and back into the area of Grace Street. We would also like to hear from those with CCTV, dashcam footage or mobile phone footage of these areas at around that time. Thank you to those who have contacted us so far and if you do have information or footage which could assist us, please get in touch so that we can provide Gino’s family with the answers they deserve.”
