James Franco has sparked widespread curiosity after videos purportedly showing the Hollywood actor appearing on TikTok went viral, with the man in the clips insisting he is not AI-generated and promising to reveal “serious information” to anyone who follows him on social media.
In the clips, which have been viewed by millions across social media platforms, a man wearing a blue T-shirt with the word “Bruce” printed on it addresses the camera directly, asking fans to follow his newly created TikTok account. He is insistent that what viewers are watching is genuine. “This is not AI,” the man says, staring into the camera. “I am in front of you right now.” He promises that those who follow him will be given access to what he describes as serious revelations.
The videos have divided opinion sharply. Some viewers expressed sympathy, describing Franco as an outcast figure attempting to rebuild a connection with an audience that largely drifted away from him following the allegations that derailed his career. Others were more sceptical, questioning whether the account is genuine or a calculated attempt to generate intrigue and attention.
Franco’s career collapsed dramatically in the years following 2018, when multiple allegations of sexual misconduct emerged centred on his behaviour as a teacher at his now-closed Studio 4 acting school in Los Angeles. The actor reached a settlement in 2021 with former students. There have been no criminal charges or convictions. Prior to the allegations, Franco had been one of Hollywood’s most prolific and eclectic performers, appearing in films including 127 Hours, for which he received an Academy Award nomination, Milk, The Disaster Artist and the Spider-Man franchise.
Whether the TikTok account is genuinely his, and what the promised “serious information” might entail, remains unclear. Franco has not made a formal public statement through any verified channel confirming the account is authentic.
