The Met Office has issued a four-day “extreme heat” warning as temperatures across the UK are forecast to climb as high as 38C next week, with amber alerts now covering large parts of England and Wales as much of Europe also swelters under intense heat.
The first amber warning, covering Monday and Tuesday, applies to central and southern England as well as parts of Wales. A second amber warning has since been issued for Wednesday and Thursday, extending across similar areas while also taking in parts of north-west England and North Wales.
According to the Met Office, London is expected to see temperatures reach as high as 38C on both Wednesday and Thursday, marking some of the hottest conditions likely to be recorded in the capital this year.
