Kim Kardashian has been accused of “pure arrogance” after she and her sister Khloe blanked Sky Sports’ Martin Brundle on live television during his iconic grid walk at the Monaco Grand Prix — refusing to say a single word to the veteran broadcaster before apparently signalling to her entourage to have him moved away.
Brundle, whose pre-race grid walk has become one of Formula 1’s most beloved traditions, approached the Kardashian sisters as they stood trackside in the French principality watching the pre-race ceremony unfold. Rather than engaging with one of British motorsport broadcasting’s most recognisable figures, Kim and Khloe chose to ignore him entirely, turning away toward their entourage in a moment that was broadcast live to millions of viewers around the world.
The reaction from Formula 1 fans was immediate and fierce. “Kim Kardashian is not too good to talk to Martin Brundle. What a complete lack of class,” wrote one viewer. Another added: “Famous for absolutely nothing, can’t carry an umbrella herself and she ignores Martin when talented sports persons and international actors embrace him. She has no place on our grid.” A third called for outright bans: “Can we please ban these disrespectful ingrates like Kim Kardashian from F1? If you won’t show the respect the people who make the sport what it is deserve, you have no place in our world.”
The chorus of criticism continued. “Kim Kardashian couldn’t give up 20 seconds of her precious time to have a chat with Martin Brundle. Terrible viewing. It’s just pure arrogance. He doesn’t ask for much — just a few words about their experience,” wrote one unhappy viewer. Another noted the irony of Hamilton’s girlfriend snubbing an F1 institution: “Can’t believe Lewis didn’t give Kim Kardashian the talk about Martin Brundle royalty.”
Kardashian, 45, had made a typically glamorous entrance to the circuit, arriving by boat to the VIP entrance in a chic cream dress and sky-high heels. Khloe, 41, matched her sister’s neutral palette in a lace-trimmed slip dress and white waistcoat. It was Kim’s first appearance at a race since going public with Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton during qualifying on Saturday, the couple having confirmed their romance at the Super Bowl in February after being spotted together on New Year’s Eve in Aspen.
The relationship has moved quickly. Just last week Hamilton was seen with Kardashian’s four children — whom she shares with ex Kanye West — for the first time, a significant milestone by any measure. A source previously told reporters the couple share an “intense” connection and that Kardashian’s family “adores” Hamilton.
None of that, however, was enough to spare her from the wrath of F1 fans who consider Brundle’s grid walk an untouchable part of the sport’s fabric — and who have a long memory for celebrities who fail to grasp what it represents.
