A video has gone viral after a woman, identified only as a nurse, was filmed confronting two Muslim women at a grocery store in Conroe, Texas, telling them they were not welcome in the state or country and making a series of offensive remarks about Islam.
The incident took place at an H-E-B supermarket on Davis Street in Conroe. In the footage, the woman, who appears to be wearing medical scrubs, approaches the two women, one of whom is wearing a hijab, beside a shopping cart. The clip was originally shared on Facebook by Aijaz Chaudary, who said in an accompanying caption that the nurse had approached his daughter while she was shopping with a friend and made offensive remarks about the women and their religion.
In the video, the woman tells the two women they are not welcome “in this state or country,” before claiming to be “very educated on the subject” and stating that “Islam is a terrorist organisation, not a religion.” She goes on to say that America is “not a Muslim country” but “a Christian country,” before telling the women to “go back to your country.” The two women can be heard explaining that they are American citizens, but the woman continues making the remarks regardless.
As of publication, the full circumstances leading up to the confrontation had not been independently verified, and it remains unclear whether the viral clip captures the entirety of the interaction. Neither H-E-B nor local authorities had publicly commented on the incident, and it is unclear whether any formal complaint has been filed.
The footage has prompted strong reactions online, with many users condemning the woman’s remarks and calling for accountability. Some social media users have attempted to identify the woman, with calls for her to be fired from her job, though her employer has not been confirmed and no organisation has commented publicly on the matter.
