A video has emerged showing Prince Harry playfully telling his wife to calm down as she warmly embraced a lifeguard in a Bondi swimming vest during the couple’s visit to meet survivors of the Sydney terror attack, drawing laughter from the gathered crowd.
The footage, captioned “the crowds could not get enough Harry and Meghan,” captures the lighthearted moment on the final day of the Sussexes’ four-day tour of Australia last week. After Harry had himself shared a hug with a well-wisher, Meghan threw her arms around a man wearing a Bondi vest and swimming cap as she said her goodbyes to first responders on the beach. As the embrace continued, Harry called out “easy, easy” to audible laughter from the crowd. Meghan, clearly amused by her husband’s remark, smiled as she finished saying her farewells before the couple profusely thanked those who had come to meet them.
The Sussexes then climbed into their private Range Rover and departed for their next engagement — a £1,700-a-head retreat that critics have since dubbed “Megstock.”
The clip emerged on the same day Harry appeared in Kyiv, where he attended a security conference and said he was there to “remind the world” and “people back home” in Britain about the ongoing war with Russia.
The warmth of Friday’s Bondi visit was, however, significantly overshadowed by controversy over what followed. Meghan had been visibly moved as she met survivors of the December terror attack that claimed 15 lives at the beach. Yet within hours of the engagement, the outfit she wore — a blue and white striped Matteau shirt priced at $440, white sailor jeans at $139, Freda Salvador trainers at $298, $198 Brochu Walker sunglasses and a $950 suede bag, totalling approximately $2,000 — had been listed on fashion platform OneOff, a site in which Meghan has invested and from which she earns a commission.
The listing included a photograph of Harry, though he was largely obscured by links to his wife’s items. After the post drew significant criticism for its proximity to a meeting with survivors of a mass casualty event, the original advertisement was quietly deleted and replaced with an image of Meghan arriving at the beach in the same outfit but without Harry in frame and away from the memorial scene.
