Jennifer Lopez has appeared to take a pointed swipe at her ex-husband Ben Affleck, telling Jimmy Kimmel Live that she regrets not embracing single life earlier — and declaring that being alone is “fantastic” as she promotes her new Netflix film.
The 56-year-old singer and actress appeared on the programme on Wednesday, confirming her single status to a cheering studio audience with a broad smile. “I should have done it sooner,” she told host Jimmy Kimmel. “I’ve been doing it all wrong. I’ve been doing it all wrong, trust me.”
Lopez married Affleck in 2022 after the pair rekindled their early 2000s romance, but filed for divorce on their second wedding anniversary. The split was officially finalised last February. When Kimmel asked whether she would consider appearing as the next Bachelorette on ABC, she was unequivocal. “No. Are you crazy? I’m not doing anything to ruin how I feel right now.” She added that she would find love again eventually — on her own terms. “I’ll find somebody somewhere one day if they’re good enough,” she said with characteristic nonchalance.
The remarks come as Lopez prepares for the release of her new Netflix romantic comedy Office Romance, due to stream from 5 June. The film, which also stars Brett Goldstein, Betty Gilpin, Edward James Olmos, Amy Sedaris and Tony Hale, centres on a company chief executive whose strict no-fraternisation policy is tested by a charming new lawyer. The project has attracted considerable attention beyond its storyline, following widespread speculation about the on-set chemistry between Lopez and Goldstein, best known for his role as Roy Kent in the Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso.
Speaking to People at the Netflix 2026 Upfront in New York earlier this month, Lopez said the chemistry between the two leads had grown naturally during filming. “I expected more of a rough guy, but you get this kind, gentle but also very smart person that is so charming,” she said. “That was a surprise.” A source told The Sun the pair had been “very touchy, feely” throughout the shoot and “always laughing,” with colleagues suspecting a closer connection. A separate insider said Goldstein “put a smile on her face” and had been exactly what she needed after Affleck.
Lopez had already given Goldstein a notable compliment last year, calling him the best on-screen kisser she had ever worked with during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live. He returned the compliment at Tuesday’s Los Angeles premiere, rating her a “12 out of 10” to Entertainment Tonight.
Meanwhile, the practical aftermath of the Affleck marriage continues to play out. Last month it emerged that Affleck had handed Lopez his share of their $61 million marital mansion. The property — purchased together in May 2023 for just over $60 million — has been on the market since July 2024 and has undergone multiple price reductions, according to TMZ, with Lopez most recently listing it at $49,995,000. She has since moved into a new $18 million home in Hidden Hills, California.
