A 39-year-old woman from Moscow has been sentenced to five years in a Russian penal colony after biting off her husband’s penis in a premeditated attack, carried out after she became convinced he had been unfaithful. According to Russian news outlet Baza, the woman had deliberately filed down her teeth in advance of the assault, which prosecutors said amounted to a planned act of revenge.
The court heard that the woman’s suspicions were triggered after she discovered a message on her 41-year-old husband’s phone from another woman, describing an erotic dream involving sex on a beach. Convinced this was evidence of infidelity, she began planning what Baza described as a “bloody revenge.” Prosecutors told the court she had carefully prepared the attack, having sharpened her teeth with a metal file beforehand specifically so she could carry it out “with a high degree of certainty,” evidence the court accepted as proof of premeditation. The husband has strongly denied ever being unfaithful.
How the attack unfolded
Dr Artur Valvachev, who treated the case, described the sequence of events leading up to the assault. According to Valvachev, the couple had dinner together, drinking and eating before going to bed, where the attack took place during a moment of intimacy. The husband briefly lost consciousness from the shock of his injuries before regaining awareness to find himself bleeding. He managed to preserve the severed tissue in a glass using saline solution he had at home, before calling for an ambulance.
Surgery unable to restore full function
Medical teams were able to surgically reattach the injury, but doctors said the extent of the damage meant erectile function could not be restored. Valvachev said the husband’s only remaining medical option going forward is a penile prosthesis fitted with an internal pump, adding that further reconstructive procedures were unlikely to offer any additional improvement.
Aftermath for the family
The woman is now serving her sentence in a Russian women’s penal colony, and the couple’s relationship has broken down entirely following the attack. Their seven-year-old child is now being raised solely by the husband, who has said he has not yet been able to find a new partner given his ongoing medical situation.
