A British man aged between 60 and 70 has been found stabbed to death at his home in an affluent gated community in southern Spain, with police investigating his Algerian boyfriend in connection with what local media describe as a brutal attack involving a machete and a hammer.
The victim was discovered in a pool of blood inside a property in La Alcaidesa, an upmarket residential enclave tucked between Sotogrande and Gibraltar on the Costa del Sol, approximately 12 miles from the British overseas territory. According to local newspaper Europa Sur, police believe the two men — who had been living together in the property — were involved in a violent altercation before the Briton was stabbed multiple times.
Emergency services were first called to the scene on Saturday afternoon following reports that a man had fallen from a height. The Algerian man, described as being in his twenties or thirties, was found injured and rushed to hospital, where he remains under treatment. A short time later, a second call led emergency responders to the discovery of the British man’s body inside the property.
Police have opened an investigation but no charges have been announced. Officers are waiting to speak to the Algerian national once his condition allows, according to Spanish newspaper El Mundo.
La Alcaidesa is one of the most sought-after addresses on the Costa del Sol among British and European expats, known for its golf resorts, beaches and secure residential developments. The area’s proximity to Gibraltar makes it particularly popular with British nationals.
The incident is the latest in a series of deaths involving British nationals in Spain. Weeks ago, a 38-year-old British tourist fell to his death from the slopes of the 400-foot Mount Urgull in San Sebastian. A passerby discovered the body and raised the alarm, but emergency responders were unable to save him. Police confirmed they were not treating that death as suspicious, according to the Daily Mail.
