Three Slovak nationals have been convicted in connection with the kidnap and rape of a 12-year-old girl who was abducted from a supermarket car park in Dover last August, with sentencing due in September.
Three Slovak men have been convicted over the abduction and rape of a 12-year-old girl in Kent, following a trial that heard how she was taken from a supermarket car park in Dover before being held and repeatedly assaulted over several days. The men, named as Kevin Horvath, 26, Ivan Turtak, 38, and Ernest Gunnar, 27, were convicted of offences including kidnap and rape, with sentencing due to take place in September.
What happened
According to reports of the case, Horvath and Turtak approached the girl in a supermarket car park in Dover in August of last year and persuaded her to get into their car. She was taken to an address before being moved to a caravan in Folkestone, where she was given controlled substances and raped repeatedly over the course of several days. She managed to escape while her captors were asleep and was later found by police in Dover. Her mobile phone, taken from her during the ordeal, was subsequently recovered from Horvath’s car.
The convictions
Horvath admitted to multiple counts of rape. Turtak was convicted in relation to making indecent images of a child. Gunnar admitted to one count of rape and was convicted of further related charges. Sentencing for all three men is due in September.
A CPS statement on the case
The Crown Prosecution Service has credited the girl’s testimony with securing the convictions, with a CPS spokesperson praising her courage in coming forward and giving evidence during the trial.
