Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies are appealing for the public’s help in locating nine-year-old twins Solomon and Marozhina Sukonick, who authorities say were abducted by their father, David Sukonick, near Lancaster on Thursday evening.
Authorities in Los Angeles have launched an urgent search for nine-year-old twins they say were abducted by their father. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said siblings Solomon and Marozhina Sukonick have been missing since the evening of July 23, when their father, 71-year-old David Sukonick, took them from near the 1000 block of West Avenue J-8 in Lancaster, roughly 70 miles north of Los Angeles, at around 8pm. Investigators say the children are considered at-risk, with ongoing concern for their welfare, and have urged anyone with information to come forward.
Descriptions of the children and suspect
According to the sheriff’s department, Marozhina is described as a white girl weighing around 90 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes, last seen wearing pink shorts and a white shirt. Her brother Solomon is described as a white boy, also weighing around 90 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes, last seen wearing blue shorts. Both children are approximately 4-foot-4 in height.
Their father, David Sukonick, is described as 5ft 7in tall, weighing around 135 pounds, with brown hair and green eyes. He was last seen wearing a white shirt, black trousers and a blue bandana. Authorities believe he was travelling with the children in a black 2011 Lincoln Town Car bearing a California licence plate reading “SOLOYST,” according to a photograph released by law enforcement.
Investigation continues
Authorities have said they do not currently know Sukonick’s destination or direction of travel, making public assistance particularly important to the search. Police have urged anyone who spots the children, the suspect, or the black Lincoln Town Car to call 911 immediately rather than attempt to intervene themselves. As of the most recent update, the twins had not been found and no arrests had been made, with the search continuing. Anyone with information has been asked to contact the Lancaster station of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
A father who documented his children’s lives online
In a public social media profile, Sukonick had recently marked his daughter’s birthday, posting on July 14 alongside a picture of her drawing: “Nine years old today.” He frequently shared pictures and videos of Marozhina’s artwork on the account. In an earlier post, he shared a photograph of himself smiling alongside both children late at night, writing: “Fireworks watch on the trunk of the car!” He had also previously wished his son Solomon a happy birthday in a post dated September 22.
