Trevor Hilton, 75, was found dead at a block of flats in Bolton on Friday morning, prompting a murder investigation by Greater Manchester Police that has led to a 49-year-old woman being charged and remanded in custody.
A grandfather who was found dead at a block of flats in Bolton has been pictured for the first time, as his family paid tribute following the charging of a woman with his murder. Trevor Hilton, 75, was pronounced dead after police were called to Hargreaves House on Ormrod Street at around 8am on Friday, July 17. Samantha Nuttall, 49, of Bradford Street, Bolton, has since been charged with murder and remanded in custody. She appeared before Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court, where the case was sent to the Crown Court for further proceedings.
Police response and investigation
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “Trevor Hilton, 75, was pronounced dead on Friday morning after officers responded to an incident at an address on Ormrod Street. His death is now subject to a murder investigation, with a woman now charged and in custody.”
Formal identification of Mr Hilton has since been completed. Detectives from the force’s Major Incident Team are continuing to pursue multiple lines of enquiry in order to establish the full circumstances surrounding his death. Investigators have not yet disclosed how he died, and no motive has been revealed as the investigation continues. Police have appealed for anyone with information, or with CCTV, dashcam or mobile phone footage from the area around Hargreaves House and Ormrod Street, to come forward.
Det Insp Louise Kelly, who has led appeals for information, previously said: “I would like to express my deepest condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones as they navigate through this loss. They will continue to be supported by our specialist officers during this difficult time.” Specialist family liaison officers continue to support Mr Hilton’s relatives as the investigation progresses.
Family tribute
In a statement, Trevor Hilton’s family said: “Trevor was a dear father, grandfather and brother to his siblings whose life was taken far too soon. The loss of Trevor has left a hole in our family which cannot be filled and we are heartbroken and would like to request privacy whilst we are trying to come to terms with what has happened.”
