A man in his 20s has died after being stabbed in a car park in Wolverhampton, prompting a murder investigation by West Midlands Police. A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder, while a 66-year-old man and a 59-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. The victim has not yet been formally identified, and specialist officers are now working to establish who he was and inform his next of kin.
What Happened
Police were alerted at around 3am on Sunday to reports of a man with a chest injury in a car park on Clarence Street. Paramedics treated him at the scene, but he was pronounced dead shortly afterwards. A blue forensic tent has since been erected in the car park while crime scene investigators carry out detailed examinations of the area.
The Investigation So Far
Detectives are working to establish exactly what happened and who is responsible, combining forensic examination of the scene with door-to-door enquiries in the surrounding area. Investigators are also collecting CCTV footage from nearby businesses and properties in an effort to trace the victim’s movements in the lead-up to the stabbing.
As it stands, the three people already arrested remain the only suspects detained in connection with the investigation, with West Midlands Police confirming no further arrests have been made.
Police Appeal for Information
Officers are urging anyone with information, including CCTV, dashcam or other footage, to come forward, quoting log 594 of 5 July. Detectives will be carrying out further enquiries in the area and are keen to speak to anyone who might be able to help piece together events leading up to the attack.
Reassurance for Residents
West Midlands Police said additional neighbourhood patrols will be deployed in the coming days to offer reassurance to local residents while the murder investigation continues.
