Two men have been arrested after a 19-year-old woman was sexually assaulted near an underpass in Telford in broad daylight — with the teenager fighting off her attacker before he fled the scene.
The attack occurred between 3.30pm and 4pm on 28 May near Laburnum Road and Stafford Road in Oakengates, Telford. The teenager was approached by an unidentified man and subjected to a sexual assault but was able to resist and fight him off. The suspect — described as white, approximately 5ft 9in tall and of average build — fled toward Trench following the incident, according to West Mercia Police.
Two men, aged 23 and 33, were subsequently arrested in connection with the attack. Both have since been released on bail while police investigations continue.
Detective Inspector Danielle Logan said the force was aware of the concern the incident would generate in the local community. “We understand an incident of this nature can cause alarm within the local community, but I want to reassure the public we are continuing with our enquiries,” she said. “Officers are continuing to carry out patrols in the area and ask anyone who have any information that may help with enquiries to speak to them.”
West Mercia Police are urging anyone who was in the area at the time or who has any information that could assist the investigation to come forward.
