Anna Zukowska, 52, a mother of two, has been remembered as “wonderful and vibrant” by her devastated family after being found dead at her home in Ollerton, Nottinghamshire, with 60-year-old Jozef Zbigniew Oleszek now charged with her murder.
Tributes have been paid to a “wonderful and vibrant” mother after a man was charged with murder over her death. Anna Zukowska, 52, was discovered at her home on James Close in Ollerton, Nottinghamshire, just before 8pm on Sunday, 6 September. The mother of two, who her family said had “her whole life ahead of her,” leaves behind two devastated sons. Formal identification has not yet taken place, though Anna’s family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.
Family tribute
In a statement, Anna’s sons paid tribute to their mother: “Anna was a wonderful, vibrant person who was full of life and had so many plans for the future. She leaves behind countless friends whose lives she touched. Her mother, her sister and sons are deeply heartbroken and struggling to process the unimaginable tragedy.”
They went on to ask for privacy while expressing confidence in the ongoing investigation: “We respectfully ask for privacy during this painful time and the family place their trust in the justice system to hold the person responsible for this crime fully accountable.”
Timeline of the investigation
Jozef Zbigniew Oleszek, 60, also of James Close, Ollerton, was arrested on the same day Anna was found. Detectives subsequently obtained additional time to continue questioning him while the investigation progressed, before he was formally charged with murder on Wednesday, 9 September, three days after Anna’s death. Oleszek has been remanded in custody and was due to appear before Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 10 September.
Nottinghamshire Police have confirmed that Oleszek is currently the only person charged in connection with the case, and that officers are not looking for anyone else at this stage. Formal identification of Anna has still not been completed, despite police having publicly named her, though her family have been kept informed throughout and continue to receive support from specially trained officers.
Police have not released a cause of death or details of any injuries found at the property, and have not disclosed a suspected motive or described the nature of any relationship between Anna and Oleszek.
Police appeal for information
Despite having charged a suspect, detectives are continuing to appeal for information, asking anyone with knowledge of what happened to come forward, regardless of how insignificant the details might seem. Members of the public are being asked to quote incident number 607 from Sunday, 6 September, when contacting police with any relevant information.
Detective Inspector Stu Barson, who is leading the investigation, said: “The family and friends of Anna Zukowska are at the forefront of this investigation. We cannot even begin to imagine the pain and suffering they are going through right now and will continue to support them in every way possible.”
