Cheshire Police have released a CCTV image of a man they wish to speak to after a teenage girl was allegedly sexually assaulted multiple times by a stranger in Chester city centre in the early hours of the morning.
A teenage girl was allegedly sexually assaulted multiple times by an unknown man in Chester city centre, Cheshire Police have said, as officers released a CCTV image of a man they want to question about the incident. The force said the alleged assault took place in the early hours of Saturday, 30 May, after the girl was approached by a stranger during a single encounter. Police believe the victim and the suspect were not known to each other. Detective Constable Niall Dudley has urged anyone who recognises the man pictured, or who has further information, to come forward.
Details of the alleged assault
According to Cheshire Police, the teenage girl was approached by an unknown man in Chester city centre in the early hours of Saturday, 30 May. During that encounter, the man is reported to have sexually assaulted the victim multiple times. The victim is being supported by specialist officers while the investigation continues.
Under the Sexual Offences Act 2003, anyone who deliberately or intentionally touches another person in a sexual manner without their consent can face prosecution. Complainants in alleged sexual offence cases are granted lifelong anonymity under UK law, meaning the victim’s identity cannot legally be published.
CCTV appeal
Detectives have released a CCTV image of a man they believe may hold information relevant to the investigation. He has not been named or formally identified as a suspect at this stage. Detective Constable Dudley said: “Enquiries have been carried out since the incident was reported, and we have now released CCTV images of a man we would like to speak to.”
He added: “If anyone has any information as to the identity of the man pictured, please get in touch with us. We would also urge the man to contact us directly. Ongoing enquiries
Officers are continuing to carry out door-to-door enquiries in the area, alongside reviewing CCTV footage from local businesses and public spaces. Police are particularly keen to hear from anyone who was in Chester city centre around the time of the incident and may have dashcam, mobile phone or private CCTV footage that could assist the investigation.
The investigation remains ongoing, and no arrests or charges have been made at this stage.
