Police said the attack took place on Tuesday night at a gathering attended by 13 men and a woman believed to be pregnant. Ten victims, including the woman, died at the scene, while four others were taken to hospital, where one later died of gunshot injuries. Three further people were wounded in the shooting.

According to a police statement, the three perpetrators entered the property in KwaMakhutha, in KwaZulu-Natal province, and opened fire on those attending the party. Of the 14 people present who were shot, ten died immediately at the scene, including the pregnant woman. Four of the wounded were taken to hospital for treatment, though one subsequently died from their injuries, bringing the total death toll to at least 11. Three other people were confirmed to have survived their injuries.
Motive unclear as investigation continues
Police said the motive behind the shooting remains unknown. However, officers stated that initial enquiries had established that some of the victims were known to the authorities, though further details were not disclosed. The investigation into the attack is ongoing.
