The 45-year-old reality star recreated the blue hair, piercings and gothic style of her 13-year-old daughter, and posted a video imitating North’s TikTok clips.
Kim Kardashian has dressed as her 13-year-old daughter, North West, for Halloween, copying the teenager’s blue hair, piercings and distinctive gothic style. The reality star and SKIMS founder shared the transformation on Instagram on Tuesday 20 October, in a carousel of 18 photographs and video clips. One follower initially mistook her for North, and her sister Khloe called them “twins”. North is the daughter of Ms Kardashian and Kanye West.
The costume and the reaction
Ms Kardashian posted a video emulating North’s TikTok clips, and the research notes say she copied the teenager’s poses and the way she holds her phone. Her black T-shirt, worn over a black-and-white striped long-sleeved top, features the cover art for North’s debut EP, N0rth4evr, released in May 2026, according to InStyle. Extra observed that she appeared to wear a necklace resembling a custom diamond skull-and-crossbones piece designed by Alex Moss, which she gave North for Christmas. It is not known whether it was North’s own or a replica.
Followers responded with enthusiasm. “Girl I thought this was northhh,” one wrote. Another said: “IM TOTALLY SPEECHLESS, LIKEEE”, and a third: “MOTHER!!!!!!!! LITERALLY TWIN!!!!!!!! SO CUTE!!!!!!” Another called her the “coolest mom ever”. Khloe Kardashian wrote: “Twins!!!!!!” Friend La La Anthony commented: “U went crrrazzzzyyyyy.” Reactions elsewhere online have been more mixed. Some found the resemblance unsettling. These are individual comments and not evidence of a backlash, and there has been no public response from North.
The post came 11 days before Halloween, and Ms Kardashian has not said whether she plans another costume. In 2023 she and North dressed as Cher and Dionne from Clueless. In 2025 they joined Kris Jenner in costumes inspired by TikTok personalities. This year she has chosen to impersonate her daughter instead.
North’s style
North has had a distinctive sense of style since before she started school. “When she was a baby, dropping her off at school, all she wanted was… her septum pierced or her eyebrow pierced,” Ms Kardashian said during a recent livestream with her daughter. “She would do like a double brow, just like in pre-K, going in with fake piercings.” Some of her piercings are still temporary and attached with adhesive, the notes say, and she has reportedly said she would like a real bridge piercing, which her parents have not approved.
North said in an earlier Dazed interview that the Japanese virtual singer Hatsune Miku, known for her turquoise twin-tails, inspired her blue hair, according to the notes. During the livestream she said: “So you guys can’t say, where did the style came, is this style from the divorce? No, queen.”
Her look has led some people to call her “demonic”. North pushed back: “I’m not demonic guys, stop saying I’m demonic. No, I’m not. Just because I like to dress this way, don’t judge a book by its cover.” Ms Kardashian suggested black grills and piercings were behind the misunderstanding and told her to ignore what people think: “I don’t think people really get it, but do you care?”
North said the white “gothic Lolita outfit” she wore for her first show at The Vic Theater in Chicago showed she was not into “that demon stuff”. “I was like, if I’m gonna do my first show ever, I gotta come like an angel, all white. ’Cause you guys know I’m not on that demon stuff. I believe in Jesus,” she said. “That’s how I came to show you guys I’m actually a light, not dark.”
What the experts say
Fashion expert Rochelle White told the Daily Mail last year that North draws on Gen Z trends, K-pop stars, her father’s fashion legacy and her aunt Kylie Jenner. She cited Y2K influences with a 2025 update, and neo-goth looks popular thanks to the Netflix series Wednesday. Ms White said Kylie Jenner’s coloured hair may have inspired North’s. She said North’s style was probably generational taste, and not a rebellion against the Kardashian aesthetic. “She might not be in rebellion but being her own person, which everyone should let her be,” she said.
