Model Jerry Hall has said she would rather retire than resort to plastic surgery, telling British Vogue that cosmetic procedures often leave women looking “scary” as she prepares to turn 70 next month and join the cast of Celebrity Traitors’ second series.
Speaking ahead of her milestone birthday, Hall said she had embraced ageing naturally and saw no shame in looking her age. “Let’s face it, plastic surgery is not perfected,” she said. “Look at the photos from the Oscars. Look at the women! They look scary. I guess some people have to do it for their career, but I would rather retire.”
She argued that women should feel free to look their age rather than chase an unrealistic standard. “I think we should be allowed to look 70,” she said. “Why not? Why should we try to look 50? I mean, you want to look a good 70. What’s wrong with wrinkles? I have loads of wrinkles. I don’t want to look weird, I don’t want to scare my grandchildren.”
The comments came as Hall posed for British Vogue spinning around a pole in high stilettos, marking her approaching 70th birthday. During the interview, she also spoke about her relationships with former partners, including Rolling Stones frontman Sir Mick Jagger, with whom she has four children and remains on friendly terms. “Mick’s a great diplomat,” she said. “All the kids love each other. All the mothers of the kids love each other. It’s just odd, isn’t it? Just worked out that way.”
Hall, who was married to media mogul Rupert Murdoch from 2016 to 2022, acknowledged that not all past relationships end so amicably. “Not all exes you want to be friends with, do you?” she said. “Some people aren’t friendly. But I think when you have children with someone it’s important to be friendly. Rupert, we were married six-and-a-half years and no children, and so, you know. I haven’t seen him in a couple of years. Since the divorce.”
Reflecting on her lifestyle, Hall described her enjoyment of hosting and entertaining at home. “I love hostessing and homemaking, very old-fashioned feminine stuff,” she said. “I like to drink wine at lunch and wine at dinner; if I have company I’ll always have wine. I used to be considered the goody-goody when I drank and smoked only. Now I’m the naughty one and I’m doing the exact same thing.”
