A Florida man has been arrested for sexually assaulting an injured woman after a car crash, allegedly telling her “I can do what I want” as she lay helpless — with his arrest coming more than a year later after DNA evidence from a rape kit was processed by investigators.
Brenden Lee Jones, 40, of Fort Lauderdale, was taken into custody last Thursday on sexual battery charges following an alleged attack on 15 September 2023. According to an incident report from the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, the victim told officers she had been raped “somewhere behind the KFC” at 3100 W. Broward Boulevard.
The woman said she had been picked up from a grocery store near Dillard High School by Jones — known to her as a drug dealer who went by the name “Twin” — when their vehicle was rear-ended. The crash left her injured, and she asked Jones and his companion to either take her to hospital or drive her home. Instead, according to the report, they took her to Jones’s house, where she fell asleep in his bed.
She told police she woke up to Jones sexually assaulting her. He allegedly told her “I can do what I want” and “Open your f***ing legs, you made me crash my car.” The victim said she felt “helpless” throughout the assault.
Jones was arrested after his DNA matched evidence recovered from a rape kit that was processed in 2024. Records from the Florida Department of Corrections show he has previously served prison time for robbery, selling cocaine and escape. He is currently being held at Broward Main Jail on a $150,000 bond.
