The father of billionaire Elon Musk has promoted conspiracy theories surrounding Jeffrey Epstein’s death during an appearance on Kremlin-controlled television, asserting the convicted sex offender remains alive nearly six years after his reported demise in custody.
Errol Musk, 79, dismissed the official account of Epstein’s death as implausible during the primetime interview broadcast on Russian state media, declaring it “absurd” to accept he died whilst awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges in August 2019.
The remarks came during a two-week Russian visit Errol characterised as focusing on “research projects with Russian scientists,” according to Moscow Times. The engineer has become a regular visitor to the country and previously expressed familial admiration for President Vladimir Putin, stating last year that “as a family… we are a little bit in awe of Mr. Putin.”
Over the weekend, Errol attended the midnight Orthodox Easter service at Moscow’s Christ the Saviour Cathedral near the Kremlin, where Putin made his traditional annual appearance. The Russian leader, who observers noted appeared wearing conspicuous makeup and looking noticeably fatigued, delivered a festive message praising “the all-conquering power of life” and “spiritual, moral values.”
The cathedral gathering occurred as Russian forces systematically violated Putin’s own declared 32-hour Easter ceasefire, which had commenced at 4pm Saturday and was intended to last through Sunday. Ukrainian military command documented nearly 470 Russian breaches of the truce, including drone strikes on Ukrainian positions beginning Saturday evening.
“The ceasefire is not being observed by the Russian side,” confirmed Serhii Kolesnychenko, a communications officer for Ukraine’s 148th Separate Artillery Brigade, as attacks continued despite the proclaimed pause in hostilities.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had agreed to honour the temporary cessation, describing it as an opportunity to advance peace initiatives whilst warning of swift military retaliation for any violations.
Putin’s Easter message praised “our heroes – the participants and veterans of the special military operation” even as his troops broke the ceasefire he had personally ordered. The Kremlin leader had commanded Russian forces to halt offensive operations from Saturday afternoon through Sunday’s conclusion.
Errol Musk has previously generated controversy through his public statements regarding geopolitics and family matters, including blaming his son for deteriorating relations with US President Donald Trump.
Epstein was discovered deceased in his Manhattan jail cell on 10 August 2019 whilst detained pending trial on federal sex trafficking allegations, sparking enduring speculation about the circumstances surrounding his death.
