Four men have been charged with a series of serious sexual offences, including rape, against three teenage girls in Kirklees between 1998 and 2000, as part of an ongoing police investigation into non-recent child sexual abuse in the area.
Four men are due to appear before magistrates charged with committing serious sexual offences, including rape, against teenage girls in Kirklees. The charges relate to the alleged sexual abuse of three girls, then aged between 14 and 15, largely in the Kirklees area between 1998 and 2000, and follow an ongoing investigation by Kirklees Police. All four men are set to appear at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 23 September.
Who has been charged
Police have named the four men as Johnathan Harrison, 46, from Cleckheaton; Mohammed Jahanghir Afsar, 54, from Heckmondwike; Usman Nazir, 44, from Stoke-on-Trent; and Naseem Risalat, 47, also from Heckmondwike.
Harrison faces the most extensive charges, comprising five counts of rape, one count of indecent assault and one count of child abduction. Afsar has been charged with four counts of rape, while Nazir faces two counts of rape. Risalat has been charged with two counts of rape and one count of aiding and abetting rape.
Kirklees Police have confirmed that their investigation into the case remains ongoing.
Part of a wider pattern of investigations in Kirklees
The charges form part of a series of continuing investigations into non-recent sexual offences across the Kirklees area. In late 2025, a separate historic child sexual abuse investigation in Kirklees saw 19 men arrested over allegations involving five women who were children at the time of the alleged offences.
A further investigation, announced in early 2026, resulted in 15 men and one woman being arrested over alleged historic abuse involving ten women who were children at the time.
Kirklees has also been the site of a major historic abuse case that concluded earlier this year, in which 20 people were jailed for a combined total of 277 years following offences committed against three young girls, dating back decades.
