British Transport Police have issued CCTV images of a man they wish to question following sexual assaults on two women at an East London Underground station during morning rush hour.
Investigators are seeking witnesses to the attacks at Wanstead station, which occurred at approximately 6.30am on 11 February, with particular emphasis on tracing a woman believed to have observed the incidents.
According to police, the suspect initially directed sexual remarks towards a woman before physically assaulting her at the busy commuter hub. He subsequently sexually assaulted a second woman at the same location.
British Transport Police stated: “Officers would like to speak to the man pictured, as they believe he may have information that could help their investigation. They are also urging a woman who is believed to have witnessed the incidents, or anyone who saw what occurred, to come forward.”
The force has urged anyone recognising the individual in the CCTV footage to contact them by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 73 of 11 February. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
The appeal comes as authorities investigate a separate sexual assault on the Victoria line service that occurred on 21 February at around 10.30am. A woman was attacked whilst a man stood behind her as the southbound train approached Green Park station.
British Transport Police have released additional CCTV imagery of an individual they believe may possess information valuable to that investigation.
The incidents have raised concerns about passenger safety on London’s transport network during peak travel periods, when platforms and carriages typically experience heavy congestion.
Transit police have increased their focus on tackling sexual offences across the Underground system, with campaigns encouraging passengers to report inappropriate behaviour and assaults immediately.
The force has emphasised that witnesses play a crucial role in identifying perpetrators and securing prosecutions, urging anyone with information about either incident to come forward regardless of how minor their observations may seem.
Investigators believe the woman who witnessed the Wanstead station attacks could provide vital testimony that may assist in identifying and apprehending the suspect. Her cooperation is considered particularly important to the ongoing investigation.
Anyone who was present at Wanstead Underground station around 6.30am on 11 February or travelling on the southbound Victoria line near Green Park at approximately 10.30am on 21 February is asked to contact British Transport Police.
