A mum who was slammed after posting a picture of her daughter drinking “mouthfuls of beer” has hit back at those who criticised her by claiming it “isn’t harmful to a baby”.
A photo uploaded by the mum on Facebook and shared to Reddit appears to shows a little girl in a red dress take a drink from a pint of beer, with the caption: “She loves having [a] taste of mummy’s beer #drinkup,” along with a laughing emoji and two hearts.
It attracted many angry comments from people calling the mum irresponsible, saying it could harm her daughter and warning her the post could land her in trouble, as reported by News.com.au.
One commented on the now deleted post to say: “Do you want your child to be taken into care? Cause even if this is a joke someone will see this and report it to social services… delete it now or you’ll regret.”
A second said: “What especially p***es me off about this is you’re practically shoving the glass in her face.”
Another wrote: “It’s not a cute photo, she looks confused, it’s really sad actually that you think this [is] acceptable.”
A fourth raged: “Don’t let her drink that for god’s sake!! What the hell.”
But the mum’s response only acted to further fan the flames of anger when she said her daughter was “having some mouthfuls of beer” not “shooting heroin”.
She defended the picture and her actions, arguing: “Clearly you’ve all never experienced being a mum cause if you did u would know that this isn’t harmful to a baby.
“My mum used to let me drink a little when I was young and would put whisky on my gums when I had sore teeth. I’d never put my baby in danger so all of you go to hell.”
She also said her daughter had “finished the end bit” of the drink and was still “here and happy and healthy”.
