The bereaved family of a teenager who died following a collision whilst riding a scooter in Lincolnshire have described his “infectious smile” and “naturally funny, cheeky charm” as police continue investigating the fatal incident.
Lachlan, 13, succumbed to his injuries on Friday, 27 March, three days after being struck by a white Seat Ibiza in Grimsby. Emergency services had transported him to hospital with life-threatening injuries following the Tuesday afternoon collision.
His sister and guardian paid emotional tribute, stating: “Lachlan’s smile was truly infectious, lighting up any room he entered. It wasn’t just his mouth that smiled – his eyes sparkled with joy and warmth. He made everyone around him feel happy with his naturally funny, cheeky charm.”
She revealed the teenager had been an organ donor, adding: “In keeping with the kind and selfless person he was, Lachlan was an organ donor, and even now he continues to help others. I am going to be lost without my sidekick, and I’m incredibly lucky to have had him in my life. Fly high, my Hot Chochlan.”
Humberside Police have arrested two men in connection with the tragedy. An 18-year-old was taken into custody on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and attempting to pervert the course of justice, whilst a 41-year-old faces allegations of perverting the course of justice.
Both suspects have been released under investigation whilst detectives continue examining circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
Lachlan was riding a self-propelled scooter when the collision occurred, with medical personnel responding rapidly to the scene before transferring him to hospital where he fought for survival over several days.
Investigators are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or possesses relevant information to come forward. The force is particularly interested in obtaining CCTV or dash-cam footage that may have captured the incident or events immediately preceding it.
Anyone able to assist the investigation has been asked to contact Humberside Police on 101, quoting log reference 346 of 24 March.
The tragedy has devastated Lachlan’s family, with his sister’s tribute highlighting the profound impact his death has had on those closest to him whilst emphasising the generous spirit that saw him registered as an organ donor—a final act of kindness benefiting others even after his passing.
