New Delhi: The Congress mopped up Rs 139 crore from contributions in 2019-20, below the Rs 146 crore it collected a year earlier. The Lok Sabha polls were held in the very first two months of 2019-20. One of the party’s most significant donors in 2018-19, Tatas backed Progressive Electoral Trust, avoided contributing to the celebration in the election year. The trust was the biggest donor to BJP in 2018-19, contributing Rs 356 crore of its Rs 800 crore. It gave the Congress Rs 55 crore the same year.The BJP is yet to submit its report.
The bulk of the Congress financing came from electoral rely on 2019-20. In 2019-20, the Progressive Electoral Trust contributed to local celebrations, giving Rs 46 crore and 25 crore to AIDMK and BJD, respectively.
Bharti Airtel supported Prudent Electoral Trust pitched in the biggest total up to the Congress cat with Rs 31 crore in 2019-20, the Jankalyan Electoral Trust contributed Rs 25 crore. The Mahindra group backed New Democratic Electoral Trust donated Rs 10 crore to Congress while the Samaj Electoral Trust and Consistency Trust chipped in with ‘Rs 2 crore each. Victory Trust offered a crore.There is no reference of electoral bonds in Congress 2019-20 contribution report sent to the election commission. Electoral bonds form the bulk of BJP’s financing. Congress rank and file also contributed in between Rs 5,000 and Rs 50,000 each.e greatest donor among members was senior leader Kapil Sibal who donated Rs 3 crore at one go. Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi contributed Rs 54,000 and Rs 50,000, respectively. Raj Babbar, Kumari Selja and Ripun Bora contributed over Rs 1lakh each. Among corporates, ITC contributed Rs 14 crore and Muthoot Financing, Gwalior Alcobrew and BG Shirke Building over ‘Rs 4 crore each.Among other nationwide celebrations, only the Nationalist Congress Celebration has declared its financing, Rs 59.9 crore in 2019-20. The Bahujan Samaj Celebration, as usual, has stated that it has not gotten any quantity bigger than ‘2,000 in donations.
