Princess Eugenie has severed contact with her father so completely that insiders are comparing the estrangement to one of the most notorious family rifts in British celebrity history.
A source close to the princess told The Mail on Sunday there was “no contact at all, nothing” between Eugenie and Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, likening the situation to Brooklyn Beckham’s reported falling out with his parents.
The younger York sister has made no attempt to maintain a relationship with her father following revelations about his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Her elder sister Princess Beatrice has taken a markedly different approach. Sources say she is attempting to balance maintaining some connection to both parents while preserving her standing within the Royal Family.
The source explained that while Beatrice has not cut her father or mother Sarah Ferguson off entirely, they are not in regular or close contact. Eugenie, by contrast, is simply not speaking to him.
Despite the fractured relationships, a close friend of the family told Richard Eden that both daughters “feel very sorry for their parents” and are checking in to ensure they are coping.
Andrew is said to be keeping his distance deliberately. The friend indicated his primary concern was ensuring his daughters were not tainted by his difficulties, and that both he and Ferguson wanted Beatrice and Eugenie to remain part of the Royal Family.
The couple were reportedly content for their daughters to spend Christmas in Norfolk without them.
King Charles has excluded his brother from family gatherings including the traditional Sandringham Christmas.
